Two paths, one name
One name. Two generations. Two distinct paths.
Bohumil Eliáš Sr. and Bohumil Eliáš Jr. are connected by a family name, an artistic environment and glass. Yet their work reveals how differently the same material can be approached.
The exhibition Two Paths, One Name brings together works by two generations – not as a story of a father and his successor, but as an encounter between two independent artistic personalities.
Bohumil Eliáš Sr. was one of the prominent figures of Czech studio glass in the second half of the 20th century. In his work, he brought together glass, painting, colour and spatial thinking.
Bohumil Eliáš Jr. grew up in close proximity to this artistic legacy, yet chose a path of his own, strongly shaped by his sculptural training and distinctive approach to glass, sculpture and painting.
The same name does not mean the same artistic language.
And it is precisely the space between what connects the two artists and where their work diverges that lies at the heart of the exhibition.

What to expect?
- Two generations of Czech glass: For the first time in our gallery, the exhibition brings together works by Bohumil Eliáš Sr. and Bohumil Eliáš Jr., allowing two independent artistic paths to be experienced side by side.
- Glass, image and space: The work of Bohumil Eliáš Sr. crosses the boundary between glass sculpture and painting. Layered glass, colour, light and imagery create objects that change with the viewer’s perspective and the surrounding space.
- A distinct path of the next generation: Bohumil Eliáš Jr. does not simply continue his father’s artistic language. He approaches glass from his own sculptural perspective, combining it with construction, form, colour and painting.
- Similarities and differences: It is only when the works of both artists are placed side by side that connections emerge which may not be apparent in photographs or when viewing their work separately. At times, their paths draw closer. Elsewhere, they clearly diverge.
- Works available for purchase: Selected works from the exhibition will be available for sale. If you are interested, we will be happy to provide further information, confirm the availability of a particular work or arrange a private viewing.
