Petr Stacho

Petr Stacho was born in 1965 in Ústí nad Labem and is one of the distinctive figures of contemporary Czech glass. He studied at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Kamenický Šenov — the oldest school of its kind in the world, before continuing at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where he studied glass under Professors Svoboda and Kopecký.

His work is characterised by a precise approach to fused glass, which he transforms into monumental objects through layering, cutting and meticulous grinding. A recurring element in his work is the triangle — a form that, for Stacho, embodies movement, tension and excitement. His objects appear austere yet deeply introspective, like physical imprints of mental processes.

Alongside his independent artistic practice, Petr Stacho has long been devoted to teaching. Since 2007, he has taught at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Kamenický Šenov, encouraging students to see glass not merely as a material, but as a medium with a language of its own.

He regularly exhibits his work in the Czech Republic and abroad, and his works are represented in significant public and private collections. He lives and works in Kamenický Šenov and Ústí nad Labem.
