Celebrating sixty years of Jan Štohanzl’s glassmaking mastery

Jan Štohanzl, a legend of Czech glass, symbolically brings an extraordinary artistic journey full circle with this exhibition.

It is an opportunity to look into his lifelong passion for glass — a material that comes alive in his hands through subtle, geometrically precise forms, often inspired by the perfection of the cube.

Artist-led guided tours with Jan Štohanzl offer a unique opportunity to experience the world of studio glass through the artist’s own eyes.

DATES:

Tuesday 19 May | 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm

Saturday 23 May | 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm

Tuesday 9 June | 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm

Saturday 13 June | 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm

Places on each guided tour are limited, so advance booking is recommended.

  • A retrospective with something new: Journey through time with a selection of iconic earlier works that helped define Štohanzl’s artistic language, and be among the first to discover entirely new pieces created especially for this exhibition.
  • A dialogue with space: The small yet carefully conceived 11 m² exhibition space becomes an artwork in its own right, reflecting and intensifying the artist’s fascination with optics and spatial relationships.
  • A unique opportunity: This is a rare chance to acquire an original work by Jan Štohanzl. His work represents not only artistic value, but also a tangible piece of Czech glassmaking history.

The opening of Optics of Space became an exceptional evening filled with light, music and encounters with Jan Štohanzl’s studio glass.

The gallery welcomed collectors, art lovers and visitors who came to experience works defined by precision and a sensitive use of light.

The atmosphere of the evening was beautifully complemented by harpist Hedvika Mousa Bacha, whose music underlined the calm and meditative character of the exhibition.

The opening also featured catering by Enjoy Catering, adding a festive finishing touch to the evening..
